THE SWORD OR THE BRUSH 2016
Yellow House’s 2nd Annual Text Show
JAN 14TH 2016-FEB 13 2016
THURSDAY JANUARY 14TH
In this show, Yellow House features artists who use text as both the material and the inspiration for their artwork.
This year we bring together three Toronto based mixed media artists to create a dynamic exhibit that explores how language transmits meaning and power between the artist and the viewer, and how text can manifest in surprising visual and sculptural ways.
Robert Donnelly is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. He exhibits locally and has also been an international artist-in-residence as part of the Danish Art Workshops in Coppenhagen, Denmark. He is a recent recipent of both an Ontario Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant, and an Ontario Arts Council Travel Grant.
Erika James is a multi-media artist working in text and installation projects. Her work has been exhibited nationally including at the McMaster Museum of Art, Nuit Blanche Toronto, and Harcourt House. Her sculptural installations are used as ambient lighting throughout the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital as part of their permanent public art collection. She is a member of Open Field collective (https://
Christina Kostoff is a Toronto based mixed media artist. She is a 2013 graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she received her Masters of Fine Art in Sculpture.
